Anonymous asked: my biggest """problem""" was i shipped ash w/ her stepsis (clara?) a lot more than the canon thing, which is not perfect state of affairs for a romance book hehe
calicobonnet replied to your post: do you read books often? if so what books do you like?
how was the part of Ash that you read? I’ve been wanting to read it!
Actually I read all of Ash! (Just only the first 50 pages of the Edward Said books, haha.) And I loved it so muchhhh, but it didn’t work as well for a lot of other people I know who read books more regularly/have standards and...
Anonymous asked: hey mona, have you thought about maybe digging up books on tape for stuff you wanted to read but couldn't? :o (This is senri, I'm just at work at the moment so I can't log in)
ok so @thearanadiscoteca found hardsubbed download links for Mughal-e-Azam (IN COLOR!!) and since TUMBLR SUX!!1 right now we’re totally going to watch together! If you want to watch with us in spirit if not in actuality (since that would be extremely hard and probably not-fun to coordinate) send me an ask and I can reply to it with the download links!

Anonymous asked: o k. i am just very unfond of how a lot of race talk in the usa is all white and black and black and white, plus continent-talk in OP made it sound pretty much like exclusive categories to me
Anonymous asked: honestly what would be wrong with it if there were no black people? there are no white people either. why would it be so terrible for asians get their own internally diverse counterpart fantasy world all to themselves for once?

Yeah, the “sand people” are actually based on the Kel Tamasheq people, who are part of my ethnic group. They live all across the Sahara — Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mauritania…
Ohhhhhh, ok. Cool! Thanks for the info!

I always side-eyed Avatar: The Last Airbender for its lack of African peoples. To me, the whole show just seemed like, “Hey you guys! Let’s imagine a fabulous, magical, fantastical world WHERE THERE ARE NO BLACK PEOPLE!”
I’m just sayin. African and Asian and Inuit peoples have interacted a lot through time and space…
Like…that show covers continents of browns people, but no Black...

I AM GONNA ATTEMPT THIS THOUGH OK
OK SO I THINK IT GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS THOUGH
Lord of the Rings (and LotRiPS) -> Buffy/Angel -> Velvet Goldmine/glam and punk music + Newsies/Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor? NO I DON’T KNOW EITHER OK -> The X-files, Highlander, due South, Hard Core Logo (I started following Nick Lea and Callum Keith Rennie around from series to series. This is what I think of as my OLD SCHOOL...
I wanna do that fandom journey thing but like, after I map out the first four it just gets to be…way too much…I’ve been in fandom for a decade and I get into about 10 fandoms at once so multiply 10 by prob like 30 (three times a year x 10 years) and you have around 300, WAH I WANT TO PARTICIPATE BUT I CAN’T REMEMBER THIS MANY TV SHOWS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

BLACK FOLKS BEEN HAD CULTURE. pre-colonial Africa had international centers of trade and learning, kingdoms that surpassed anything found in Europe. pre-colonial Africa has super complex social, political, religious, artistic, mathemetic, you name it systems.
but when that transatlantic slave trade started, you suddenly know what Africans were?...
