Chinese Aviatrix Receives Gift Of New Plane From Colonel Roscoe Turner, Washington, D.C., 1939
Here’s what you need to know: Hilda Yen was awesome. Born into a highly influential Chinese family, she earned degrees from both Smith College AND Yale. Yen was spoken of in the same breath with the likes of her contemporary, Amelia Earhart. She took her flying skill to China to instruct others on how to fly. In the picture above, she accepts a gift of an airplane, on behalf of the “Friends Of New China,” from American military officer, Colonel Roscoe Turner.
A month later the plane nearly killed her when she crashed into a field, but she bounced back, advocating for China the rest of her life.

Hi, I'm Mona (formerly @awyeahlife)! I mostly post about my fictional passions, particularly those involving girls in love, and I watch a lot of TV/anime. I also do a lot of reblogging and tl;dring! Update, Feb 24 2011: I'm trying to increase this blog's accessibility while still finding ways to manage my own obsessive-compulsive issues with completionism, perfectionism, decision-making, detail fixation, etc. For now, what this means is I'm going to start transcribing the text or dialogue of any comics panels, twitter screencaps, or other images with text in them, and do a quick, rough description of any other important visual details in those images unless I start spiraling into compulsivity. But any textless images I'm going to leave without descriptions, at least for now. If you're wondering what the purpose of image descriptions is, I gave a brief explanation here; if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
