that we need to focus on the bigger picture
that having a voice (when we’re constantly denied one by society) isn’t activism
that talking about our oppression is infighting and we need to band together
demonstrates that the so-called radical school of thought is not much better than liberalism; dogma that is focused on systemic issues rather than individual is still dogma.
denying the connection between our experiences as individual people, and the systemic roots of oppression, is just as harmful as ignoring the roots altogether.
language and social attitudes are tools used by institutions to uphold the status quo.
they are not separate issues. one is not more important to address than the other.
the suggestion that theory and words have nothing to do with changing “actual material conditions” of people’s lives is fucking laughable.

Hi, I'm Mona (formerly @awyeahlife)! I mostly post about my fictional passions, particularly those involving girls in love, and I watch a lot of TV/anime. I also do a lot of reblogging and tl;dring! Especially when it comes to social justice stuff; if you don't want to have your squee harshed by discussions of how fiction helps uphold marginalization and oppression, this probably isn't the tumblr for you.

Update, Feb 24 2011: I'm trying to increase this blog's accessibility while still finding ways to manage my own obsessive-compulsive issues with completionism, perfectionism, decision-making, detail fixation, etc. For now, what this means is I'm going to start transcribing the text or dialogue of any comics panels, twitter screencaps, or other images with text in them, and do a quick, rough description of any other important visual details in those images unless I start spiraling into compulsivity. But any textless images I'm going to leave without descriptions, at least for now. If you're wondering what the purpose of image descriptions is, I gave a brief explanation here; if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
