No, I do not believe every new identity needs to be evaluated by a panel of identity experts to determine if it is valid or not, because some identities are inherently abusive. I think that is a narrative that prioritizes community agreement over the nurturing of new identities that are intersectionally aware. Your nuanced arguments do not come across in your jokes, your jibes, your insults, you tiny cruelties or your abuse, what comes across is that any new identity people haven’t heard of is ripe for abuse, because activists are trained by society at large to abuse each other, like everyone else is, and when you come to activism you have a lot of bile and cruelty you must vent on people labeled the outgroup, who are sometimes horrible nasty people and SOMETIMES are just people trying to explain their own lives to the world.

Right, and that is why a trans woman would find it incredibly offensive...self-identified...

but isn’t it true that if any identity is “valid” that none are? in the sense that someone identifying as “ex-gay” is probably bullshit and deserves to be dissected at such. at some point you have to say that critical discussion of ID is valid? IDK
