YES YES YES UGH jackie is SO INFURIATING in how she tries to make grace’s pain about HER, tries to TRICK HER INTO BEING HAPPY, and the narrative definitely does not apologize for her when she does that (the narrative basically holds the opinion that: jackie is a sympathetic person but she is also NOT A GOOD PERSON) but that doesn’t make it any less difficult to watch.

there’s one point where she calls grace’s therapist and tries to intimidate her into telling her what grace talks about in her sessions and i actually had to stop watching for a few minutes to get myself back under control because i was so angry. and again, the writing doesn’t back her up on doing that, but i was still so angry. i love jackie but she makes me so angry when she tries to “fix” grace, as if grace is a toy that’s been broken and not a human being in pain.

but hey i totally want to write fic from grace’s pov because while she absolutely is a fully-realized character she doesn’t get enough of a pov in the show. so there’s that.

I love his character on Nurse Jackie so much that I instinctively found the two-dimensional straw man terrorist he was cast in on Nikita sympathetic even before the twist that he WAS (semi-)sympathetic was revealed - and am still furious at the arbitrary pointlessness of his death.

Me too. :( I would have really liked to see him get more development, significant storylines of his own, et cetera. The show really could have been that much more rich and human if it, yknow. Kept its queer POC and gave him more of a voice. (I just googled to find out if the leaving was a choice of the actor or the show, and:

“Originally, we had intended Mo-Mo to be Jackie’s best friend, but as season one progressed, other characters naturally evolved into that role.”

An inside source adds, “Everybody loves him. This has nothing to do with any internal conflicts–the story line just seemed to have run its course.”

I’m only a few episodes in to season three, in case any of these answers seem wonky because of that!

• Favorite Character:THE ENTIRE SET OF LEADS but I’ll put Ms. Gloria Akalitis down here because she doesn’t get enough love. (weh O’Hara Zoey Jackie I do love you soooo much I’m just trying to be decisive here)
• Least Favorite Character: Eddie, though it’s a testament to his writing that I kneejerk-dislike him but think he’s very sympathetic.
• Prettiest Character: This is as difficult as “favorite” because those four ladies are STUNNING in nicely non-normative ways? AH I don’t know how to choose between them so Zoey Jackie O’Hara Gloria, here too.
• Character I Wanna Marry: Zoeyyyyy
• Character I Wanna Be Best Friends With: O’Hara!!!! god ;__;
  
• Favorite Pairing: THIS IS SO HARD. I like Gloria/O’Hara, Gloria/Zoey, Zoey/O’Hara, Zoey/Jackie, O’Hara/Jackie as a romantic friendship, O’Hara/Jackie/Kevin, O’Hara/Jackie/Kevin/Gloria/Zoey/Lenny, Zoey/Lenny, Sam/Thor(/Momo…I will never forget you Momo…), Coop/Eddie HAHAHAHA
• Favorite Episode/issue/etc: The way Jackie’s addiction is written is flooringly realistic and painful, I think the s2 finale and the s3 premiere probably devastated me the hardest on that front. Also when O’Hara’s queerness was first introduced, I forget any episode names but her sort of quiet gossippy “guess who I am dating :D” pride over the journalist was so FUCKING adorable and she’s just such an amazing character it makes me cry sometimes.
• Unpopular Opinion: THIS FANDOM SHOULD BE HUGE. GIGANTIC. Everyone who complains about no interesting female characters passing the bechdel test should sit their asses down and watch this show. AND THEN WRITE SOME FIC. There’s an opinion that is, evidently, unpopular ;__;

Ok Misty/Colleen, because…like, both are wonderful friendshippy pairings of love and joy but Misty/Colleen have SLIGHTLY MORE STORIES that are literally just about them being in love and saving each other with their love, and they also win on the character front because Donna and Kory are so dear to my heart, yes, but Kory was totally an alien stand-in for a woman of color (I think she’s one of the best, FOR ONCE NOT WHITE-CODED-CULTURE-ENTRENCHED OR WHITE-DEFAULTING examples of this, but she is still an alien with orange skin instead of a member of an actual marginalized group that rarely gets stories told in comics/fiction, especially compared to the made-up group known as ‘hot alien babes’) whereas Misty and Colleen are ACTUAL women of color who have existed for just as long and have been able to be great from their very first appearances. But Donna/Kory has an ongoing cheesiness factor that Misty and Colleen have lacked a bit since the Claremont days, so: MISTY AND COLLEEN GET ON THAT START HAVING MORE CHEESY MOMENTS AGAIN SO YOU CAN KEEP YOUR OTP LEAD!!!!!!

And since both couples are broken up by shitty canon right now neither gets an advantage from that :( Also neither IS canon as much as I want them to be…I still keep my fingers crossed that this will change though NOT EVEN SELF-CONSCIOUS ABOUT THIS IF YOU’RE GONNA BREAK UP MISTY AND DANNY YOU BETTER MAKE MISTY/COLLEEN HAPPEN WTF IS THIS PALADIN SHIT, IF YOU’RE GONNA MAKE DONNA BE DEPRESSED AND CURSING LIKE A TRUCK DRIVER YOU BETTER MAKE IT BE BECAUSE SHE LONGS FOR HER GF WHO IS CURRENTLY OFF PLANET

Kory! And Misty! By the TINIEST TINIEST MARGIN, I basically find Kory ~inspirational~ and there’s some real substance to her NTT writing that has never been replicated by anything else I’ve read in DC comics other than like, Cass’s Batgirl run? SERIOUSLY I LOVE KORY SO MUCH SO SO SO SO SO MUCH. So even though Donna is my super POV character who I project homoromantic aceness onto who is a mom to everyone with a heart of gold and pretty hair and pretty costumes, Kory is just…my love for her runs ever so slightly deeper, ok.

And Misty beats Colleen just because she gets the “I have more canon with more stories and more stuff to do” advantage. And because…..she has a bionic arm. With technopathic powers. WHAT CAN I SAY.

The Good Wife & Nurse Jackie: BETWEEN KALINDA AND O’HARA, I am REALLY finding myself digging this trend for queer women having angsty heartbreak stories about platonic ladyfriendships - it gets around the gross thing where they’re pining and waiting for the Jackies or Alicias to reciprocate their attraction, it hits my “friendship is the most important special thing in the world” kink, and then because they are queer, I can self-insert about how you do get some romantic-feeling fluidity in a really really strong friendship, so their levels of vulnerability over these friendships deteriorating (Jackie/O’Hara) or potentially deteriorating (Kalinda/Alicia) resonate so deeply for me AS heartbreak, the deepest kind of heartbreak. Friendship heartbreak.

Noooo idea if I’m even making sense but basically: Queer lady characters for whom the most important part of their lives is a platonic f/f friendship that they experience platonically but so so so so intensely and preciously = new favorite fictional trope, can’t get enough.
